LINN – Elmer Peters, 84, passed away peacefully on February 29, 2008, at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, Kansas. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at St. John Lutheran Church, Palmer, Kansas. The Rev. Gene Holtorf officiated. Sheila Stuenkel played the organ. Burial was in the church cemetery. Elmer was born January 26, 1924, the son of Gustav and Minna (Hornbostel) Peters. He was one of ten children and lived at the family farm near Linn, Kansas. He was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church, Palmer, Kansas, and later was confirmed there. He attended St. John Lutheran School and then Linn Rural High School. On April 19, 1953, he was united in marriage to Lorene Ohlde. They are the parents of three children, Bryce, Ned and Jan. Elmer worked for a local elevator, owned Peters 66 and Farm Supply for almost 35 years and was a farmer. He was active in the community and faithfully served his church in various roles. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Martin and Norbert; and six sisters, Lorna Fox, Selma Woodhams, Flora Meyer, Gertrude Pamperin, Leota Brockman, and Viola Meyer. Survivors include his wife, Lorene; two sons, Bryce Peters and wife Gaye Lyn, Palmer, and Ned Peters and wife Debra, Palmer; one daughter, Jan Lindhorst and husband Craig, Marysville; eight grandchildren, Brock Peters and wife Michelle, Schuyler Peters, Kellyn Peters, Aaron Peters, Tessa Peters, Brett Peters, Adam Lindhorst and Matthew Lindhorst; one brother, Walter Peters, Summerfield, KS; brothers-in-law, Harlan Brockman, Overland Park, KS, and Clem Pamperin, Phoenix, AZ; and one sister-in-law, Evelyn Woerner and husband Raymond, Linn. He loved his family and enjoyed following all of their activities, he was very proud of them all. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date.
