Nyla T. Voelker, 88, died Wednesday, February 28, 2008, at the Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center. Nyla was born on August 8, 1919 at Palmer to Theodore and Dora (Killman) Kolle. She was united in marriage to William C. Voelker at the Zion Lutheran Church, Linn on March 24, 1940. They moved southeast of Palmer and farmed. Nyla was active in her church; she belonged to LLL, Ladies Aid and taught Sunday school. She was the activities director at the Linn Community Nursing Home, and wrote the Palmer news for the Linn Palmer Record. Mrs. Voelker enjoyed quilting, gardening, cooking and spending time with her family. Nyla was preceded in death by her husband, William on November 22, 2001; daughter Jean Tegtmeier in 2002; son-in-law, Wilber Tegtmeier in 2003; and a brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Lorene Kolle. Nyla is survived by six sons; Rev. William Voelker and wife Judith, Savannah, MO, Rodney Voelker and wife Judy, Pierce, Neb., Ted Voelker and wife Christine, Rudolph, Wis., Tim Voelker and wife Michele, Greenleaf, Tom Voelker and wife Carol, Latimer, Ia, and Randall Voelker and wife Melinda, Newton; brother Elmer Kolle and wife Marlene, Linn; sisters Sophie Bosse, Onaga, KS, Dorothy Minnie, Winnona, Minn.; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10:00 am Saturday, March 1 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Palmer. Rev. Gene Holtorf officiated. Sheila Stuenkel was the organist and played hymns, “Before the Lord We Bow,” “Let Us Ever Walk With Jesus”, “O Day of Rest and Gladness” and Savior Again to Thy Dear name We Raise”. Burial was in the church cemetery. Casket bearers were her six sons. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Hour and sent in care of the Ward Funeral Home.
