Luella M. Hauschel

Luella Maye Hauschel, 85, formerly of Morrowville, Kansas, passed away Monday, January 28, 2008, at Concordia, Kansas. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 1, 2008, at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church north of Morrowville. A rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 31, at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Washington. Visitation will be Thursday from noon until 5 pm at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. Burial will be in the Mahaska Cemetery, Mahaska, Kansas. Luella was born February 23, 1922 at Mahaska, to Roy and Elsie (Hackbarth) Smith. She attended Hope Well Country School and graduated from Mahaska High School in 1939. On March 18, 1942, she was united in marriage to Marvin Hauschel and to their union four children were born. The couple spent their entire life in the Morrowville community. First farming, and then Luella helped Mike as custodian of the Morrowville and North Central schools. She also was a cook at both the school and Korner Café in Morrowville. She enjoyed every minute with the young people and was often more than just a friend to many. She later worked as a seamstress for Kellwood’s and MC Industries at Belleville. In December 1995, she moved to Concordia to be closer to her family. She was a member of the Morrowville St. Peter and Paul Catholic church and the Altar Society. She was actively involved in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Morrowville Community Club and later became a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church of Concordia. She enjoyed doing fancy work and making afghans for family and friends. She lived her life around her children and grandchildren, and in later years enjoyed all her new friends at Concordia, Marquis Place and Mt. Joseph. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Marvin; and one brother Donald Smith. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Hauschel and wife Kaye, Concordia, Terry Hauschel and wife Deanna, Salina; two daughters, Marvene Gieber and husband Bill, Concordia, Vonda Pumarlo and husband Bob, Concordia; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother Harold Smith, Concordia; three sister-in-laws; many nieces, nephews and close friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and will be greatly missed by all. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date.
