Allen Leon Edgar, age 89, of Washington, KS. died, January 25, 2008, at the Homestead Nursing Home, in Washington. Edgar was born July 1, 1918, in Oketo, KS., the son of George Albert Edgar and Sarah Elizabeth (Paxton) Edgar. On August 5, 1942, Allen was united in marriage to Anna Slama, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, in Greenleaf, KS. Allen and Anna were blessed with two sons, Lonnie and Larry. Allen joined the United States Army in 1944 and served in Germany during World War II. During this time he received the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, EAME Theater Ribbon, and two Bronze Service Stars. After returning from the war, Allen took up farming. He also took a job working for the Kansas Department of Transportation, in Washington, KS. Allen worked for K.D.O.T. until his retirement. Allen was member of the VFW Post 7437. He was also a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, in Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents; Ann, his wife of 64 years; three sisters; and four brothers. Allen is survived by his two sons, Larry Edgar of Greenleaf and Lonnie Edgar of Washington; sister, Alma Tegethoff of Ottawa, KS. five grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. Funeral service for Allen was held, 10:30 am, Tuesday, January 29 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Washington. Rev. Judy Hill officiated. Sheila Ouellette played the congregational hymns, “Old Rugged Cross”, “ How Great Thou Art”, and “Amazing Grace”. Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery. Casket bearers were Garett Edgar, Bruce Lehman, Jim Martin, Nathan Edgar, Kohlin Martin and Wayne Bolejack. Honorary bearers were his grandchildren, Gary Edgar, Todd Edgar, Sheila Bolejack, Sharon Martin and Sarah Leahew. A memorial fund has been established to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
