Washington, KS – Herbert Neil Hyland, the son James R. and Blanche (Cartwright) Hyland was born November 7, 1912 at Washington, KS. He died Friday, August 19, 2005 at the Washington County Hospital in Washington at the age of 92. Herbert attended school in Washington and graduated from Washington High School. He attended the University of Kansas where he received his law degree in 1935. He has been a member of the Kansas Bar Association for 70 years. Herbert was united in marriage to Bernice Bonebrake on October 30, 1938 at Washington, KS. Herb served his country during World War II in the Army Air Force. After his honorable discharge from the service he returned to Washington where he practiced law. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington; member of the American Legion; Masonic Lodge and was also a member of the Shrine; he belonged to the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge and was a Lions Club Member for over 50 years; a member of the Chamber of Commerce; former Washington school board member; coached Pee Wee and American Legion Baseball; loved flying and was a Charter Member of the Kansas State Attorneys Association. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Bernice on July 7, 2005; one brother Leslie and one granddaughter, Angela Hyland. Herb is survived by two sons, Thomas Hyland and wife Charlene of Stillwell, KS and Patrick Hyland and wife Leslie of Ft. Collins, CO; also survived by 6 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Washington with the Reverend Phil Morris officiating. Interment will be held at the Washington City Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. Visitation for Mr. Hyland will be held Monday, August 22, 2005 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Ward Funeral Home in Washington.
