Duane L. Line, 71, of Washington, KS, died Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at the Washington County Hospital in Washington. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Monday, September 17, at St. Augustine. Fr. David Metz officiated. Sheila Ouellette was organist. Jon Scoville sang "Amazing Grace" and the congregation sang, "Here I Am Lord", "On Eagles Wings", "Song of Farewell" and "How Great Thou Art." Pallbearers were Justin Line, Kevin Line, James Scheele, David Scheele, Tom Scheele and Frank Shoemaker. Honorary pallbearers were Roy Eggers, Jack McCarty, Bill Malleen, Kenny Schoen, Gene Martin, Bill Skrabel, Gary Funke, Bob Funke, Jim Kier, Bob Long and Bob Larsen. Burial was in the Haddam Cemetery. Duane was born January 11, 1941 near Haddam, KS, son of Malcolm and Gladys (Haldeman) Line. He was baptized on March 25, 1951 at the Haddam Methodist Church. He received his education in the Haddam School system and attended Kansas State University for one year. On October 7, 1961, he married Rosalie J. Kirk. They lived most of their married lives in Washington, KS. To this union two sons were born, Michael and Steven. He served in the Army National Guard. He was activated to Colorado for basic training and then to El Paso, TX, to serve this country from 1961 to 1969 when he was honorably discharged. Duane worked as a parts man for Bruna Implement in Washington and farmed part time before retiring in 2003. On April 11, 1998 he was confirmed at St. John's Catholic Church in Hanover, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Rosalie; two sons, Michael (Miyako) Line, Kawasaki, Japan, and Steven (Kristine) Line, Columbus, NE; grandchildren, Justin (Fusae), Kevin, Evan, Derek, Chelsea, Alexis and Brianna; great-grandson, Allen; and sister, Donna (Marvin) Shoemaker, Narka, KS. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date.
