Matilda Talbot, 99, died January 31, 2012, at the Linn Community Nursing Home. A funeral service was 10 a.m. Friday, February 3 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Greenleaf. Fr. David Metz officiated. Gina Miller played the organ while the church choir sang "Here I Am Lord", "You Are Mine", "I Am the Bread of Life", "May the Angels be Your Guide" and "How Great Thou Art." The pallbearers were Jim Talbot, Jerry Talbot, Raymond Talbot, Mark Brungardt, Alvin Brungardt and Wayne Talbot. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Matilda was born on November 19, 1912 at Clifton, KS to George and Gertrude (Esslinger) Wurtz. On September 16, 1929, she was united in marriage to Leroy I. Talbot. They were blessed with six sons and five daughters. Matilda belonged to a card club, did gardening and was a great cook. She helped at church, was a member of the Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her sons, Jerry (Wanda) Talbot, Endicott, NE, Jim (Margeurite) Talbot, Marysville, KS, Raymond (Sheri) Talbot, Wichita, KS; daughters, Marilyn (Alvin) Brungardt, Washington, KS, Kathleen (William) Wilkes, Altus, OK, Yvonne Talbot, Linn, KS, Laura Asp, Wichita Falls, TX, Margaret Talbot, Oxford, MS; sisters, Laura Steen, Wichita, KS, Florence Hoover, Greenleaf, KS; nineteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leroy; sons, Robert, Leroy and Leon; and a great-grandson. A memorial fund has been established to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
