Lucy G. Rose, 95, of Washington, KS, died Friday, December 2, 2011 at the Linn Community Nursing Home. A funeral service was at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 8 at the Washington Christian Church. Pastor John Frey officiated. Gay Lynn Manning was the pianist. Dr. Jim Smart sang "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset." Burial was in the Brethren Cemetery, Washington. Pallbearers were Darell Keller, Kevin Keller, Jason Keller, Daren Keller, Anthony Stamm, Trenton Rose, Benjamin Rose and Jonathan Rose. Lucy was born February 3, 1916 near Washington, KS, the daughter of Alva and Nora (Gauby) Ditmars. She was baptized in the Brethren Church and later transferred to the Christian Church. On March 9, 1938 she married Lee Rose at the Brethren Church in Washington. Lucy worked at Esterbrook Cafe, Swirly Top Steak House, raised dogs, enjoyed gardening, flowers and quilting. She provided care in her home for several ladies, over several years. She was a member of Garfield Helping Out Club and the Christian Church Coteri. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lee, on April 26, 1996; one daughter, Naomi Ruth Rose; two brothers, Lloyd and Sherman Ditmars; four sisters, Eula Thayer, Blanch Roop, Ruth Moffitt and Dora Ditmars; and one great-grandchild, Jamie Keller. Survivors include two daughters, Betty I. Keller, Abilene, KS, and Norma J. (Malcolm) Stamm, Washington; four sons, Roger L. Rose, Ord, NE, LaVern A. (Diane) Rose, McPherson, KS, Alvin M. (Susan) Rose, Ocean Side, CA, and Wilbur D. (Janie) Rose, Jones, AL; two brothers, John and Ray Ditmars, Washington, KS; three sisters, Bessie (Betty) Penner, Washington, Ina (Elmer) Fike, Willow Springs, MO, and Maud Lengel, Juda, WI; seventeen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to the First Christian Church in Washington. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
