Lester W. Miller, 87, died August 8, 2011, at Fairbury, Nebraska. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Washington. Fr. David Metz and Fr. Jim Hoover officiated. Gina Miller was organist. Vocalist Alicia Westhoff sang “On Eagles Wings”, “Our Father” and “How Great Thou Art”. Bob L’Ecuyer sang “Amazing Grace.” Pallbearers were Steve Kastens, Scott Miller, Josh Miller, Braden Miller, Dale Westhoff, John Miller, Tyler Miller, Justin Lindsley, Marc Westhoff, Nat Miller and Christopher Simons. Burial was in St. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Morrowville. Lester was born January 6, 1924 at Fairbury, Nebraska, to Joseph and Mary (Koch) Miller. He attended school at Morrowville and graduated in 1941. After high school, he farmed with his father north of Morrowville. Lester was also part owner in the Corner Café for several years. Lester was on the Morrowville and North Central School Board, the Mill Creek Township Board, church cemetery board, Conservation Service Board and Area Aging board. He was an upstanding community member. He loved playing baseball, playing until he was 36 years old. He liked to do carpentry work, hunt, dance and take family movies. Lester loved traveling to visit his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. On December 29, 1945, Lester was united in marriage to Agnes L’Ecuyer. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his parents; an infant daughter, Audra Beth; a son, Don; one grandchild and three great grandchildren; and sisters, Elvera Wittmus and JoAnn Kuhlmann. Surviving him are his children, sons, Fred Miller (Diane) of Morrowville, Tim Miller (Mary Ann) of Lincoln, Nebraska; daughters, Jan Kastens (Al Rose) of Loudon, TN, Marcia Westhoff (Roy) of Great Bend, KS, Lisa Lindsley of Ellsworth, KS; 22 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established in his name and will be designated by the family. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
