Eva A. Lewis, 93, of Washington, Kansas, died Monday, July 18, 2011 at the Centennial Homestead in Washington, where she has resided since 2003. A graveside funeral service and P.E.O. Service was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 22, 2011 at the Belleville City Cemetery in Belleville, Kansas. The Rev. Randy Jellison-Knock of the United Methodist Church in Washington officiated. Eva was born March 3, 1918, on a farm near Republic County, Kansas, the daughter of John and Anna (Dumback) Tarkowski. She attended the Dry Lake Grade School and graduated from Belleville High School. Eva was married to Ervyl Lewis, together they owned and operated a motel in Manitou Springs, Co, for 7 years. They moved to Washington and operated Park Hill Motel for 11 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Womens Circle, P.E.O., American Legion Auxiliary, Fedelia Club and was a Hospice Volunteer. Survivors include her daughter, Ruth Ann Lewis of Plano, Texas; nieces, Karen Neubauer, Allen, TX, Patty Gregg, Pueblo, CO, Margie Cullen, Northglenn, CO, Jerri Schmitz, Longmont, CO and Shirley Ann Lewis, Quito, Ecuador. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ervyl Lewis, on May 8, 1986; son, John Lewis, on July 4, 1970; brother, Lewis Tarkowski; and sister, Victoria Peters. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the American Cancer Society.
