James E. Hood, 91, Washington, died June 11, 2007, at Washington County Hospital. He was born April 19, 1916, at Hiawatha, the son of Roy O. and Frances Meisenheimer Hood. He moved to Washington County with his parents when he was a small child. He attended Washington Grade School and graduated from Washington High School. He then farmed and drove a truck for several years until he went to work at the Farmers Co-op Elevator where he worked for 26 years before retiring. On Oct. 17, 1941, he married Marcella Weckrley. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Kay Wilkens and husband, Dwayne, Linn, and Ruth Belding and husband, Warren, Fairbury, Neb.; one son, Michael Hood and wife, Sandie, Washington; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and two sisters. Funeral service was June 14 at the Methodist Church in Washington. Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Foundation or the Washington Methodist Church. Ward Funeral Home, Washington, was in charge of arrangements.
