Arnold Dittbrenner, 93, of Greenleaf, Kansas, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the Washington County Hospital. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 26 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church near Greenleaf. Burial was in the church cemetery. Arnold was born on a farm near Greenleaf, Kansas to August and Sophia (Laue) Dittbrenner on September 1, 1917. He lived on this farm, homesteaded by his grandfather in 1870, until the time he moved to the Linn Community Nursing Home. Arnold was baptized September 22, 1917, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Greenleaf by Rev. Carl Lehenbauer. He was confirmed there on May 17, 1931 by Rev. Theodore Stolp. Arnold enjoyed crop farming, raising Salers cattle, visiting farm shows and having breakfast with friends at the Greenleaf Café’. His favorite time was when his nephews from Colorado came to visit. They thoroughly enjoyed working with Arnold. Later, another generation came to enjoy the same activities around the farm. For many years, Arnold lived patiently with a diabetic condition. Without complaining, he self-administered insulin shots and carefully watched his diet. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Ruben. He is survived by three nephews, Jim Dittbrenner, Denver, Co, Jerry Dittbrenner and wife Laura, Brewster, KS, and Jack Dittbrenner, Denver, Co. and their families; and cousins.
