Leota A. Moore, 92 of Morrowville, Kansas, passed away Friday, April 29, 2011 at the Centennial Homestead in Washington, Kansas. Funeral Services were held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, May 4 at the United Methodist Church in Washington. Pastor Randy Jellison-Knock officiated. Sheila Ouellette was organist and accompanied Dr. James Smart as he sang "In The Garden" and "Abide With Me." The congregation sang "Jesus Loves Me." Pallbearers were Jake Miller, Korey Welch, Kevin Miller, Larry Lindsley, Ronnie Lindsley and Larry Durst. Burial was at the Washington City Cemetery. Leota was born on May 2, 1918 at Morrowville, the daughter of Calvin and Louise (Boecker) Smith. She graduated from Morrowville High School in 1936 and then she received her teaching degree from Emporia College. She married Earl R. Moore on May 5, 1939 north of Morrowville and he died on September 7, 2006. Leota was a school teacher for 45 years. She taught at several Washington County country schools and also schools in the Linn and Hanover districts. Leota was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington, Pastor's Parish, Pursley Club of Morrowville, Iowa Creek Club, and was secretary of the Morrowville Alumni for many years. Her and her husband were 4-H Leaders for many years and she also helped Earl at the Washington County Fair, where he was the Swine Superintendent for 60 years. She is survived by her son, Leo and his wife Jo Ann Moore of Haddam, sister, Fern Lindsley of Washington, 4 grandchildren, Diane Miller and her fiancee, Curtis Parker, Connie (David) Delay, Susan (Dennis) Welch, Danny (Tina) Moore, 6 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl in 2006, 2 brothers, Dale Smith and Wayne Smith, 3 sisters, Dorothy Elliott, Doris Taylor, and Betty Holder. Memorial contributions will be designated later and can be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home in Washington.
