Vera Duensing, 93, died at the Linn Community Nursing Home, Thursday, April 7, 2011. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 13, at Immanuel Lutheran Church west of Linn. The Rev. Richard Rikli officiated. Barb Ruhnke played the organ. Burial was in the church cemetery. The honorary pallbearers were her great grandchildren, Trevor Duensing, Connor Duensing, Allison Duensing, Payton Duensing, Hazel Hornbostel and Theodore Hornbostel. Vera was born on June 6, 1917 at Hollenberg to Herman and Dorothea (Damman) Grefe. She was baptized on June 24, 1917 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bremen. Her confirmation was on April 9, 1932. On her 22nd birthday, she was united in marriage to Hilbert Duensing at the Immanuel Lutheran Parsonage. Vera was a homemaker and was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed quilting, baking, and spending time with her family. She raised a garden and would can the produce she grew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hilbert, on December 23, 1997; son, Robert Duensing, on September 6, 2007; and sister, Dorothy Grefe. Surviving her are daughter-in-law, Dorothy Duensing Herrs, Linn; two grandchildren, six great grandchildren; brother, Alwin (Rose) Grefe, Plymouth, Neb.; and sister, Eva Palmer, Emporia, Kan. A memorial fund has been established to be designated by the family. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
