Jacqueline A. Bailey, 95, of Washington, Kansas, died Monday, March 21, 2011 at the Homestead Nursing Home in Washington. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 25 at Ward Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Hutchison officiated. Erin Toole played the organ while Rick and Julie Tegethoff sang “Amazing Grace”, “How Great Thou Art” and “Nearer My God To Thee.” The pallbearers were Terry Bailey, John Karpiak, Larry Kehne, Vince Can Sant, J.R. Rosenquist and Richie Huffman. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Baltimore, Maryland. Jacqueline was born February 25, 1916 at Rennes, France, the daughter of Joseph and Gabriel (Crook) Labricquis. Her father was a French soldier and died in the World War when she was an infant. Her mother remarried Clifford Holgate whom adopted Jacqueline. On January 9, 1932 Jacqueline boarded the steamship Winnipeg and arrived in the United States on February 4, 1932. In the late 30's she married Jay David Bailey in Texas. Their son Richard was born in Texas and later the family moved to Baltimore. In 2002 Jacqueline moved to Washington. She liked to sew, go fishing and take trips to the ocean. She also liked spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jay David Bailey on February 15, 1976; and brother, Henrri Holgate. Survivors include one son, Richard (Mary) Bailey, Washington, Kan.; step-sister, Georgette Emery, Vancouver, Wash.; five grandchildren, Deborrah (John) Karpiak, Corsicana, Tex., Tami (Vince) VanSant, Belleville, Kan., Terry (Ruth) Bailey, Washington, Kan., Lisa (Larry) Kehne, Belleville, and Michele (J.R.) Rosequist, Washington, Kan.; and ten great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
