Betty L. Thorman, 83, of Greenleaf, Kansas, died Monday, January 17, 2011 at the Washington County Hospital. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Wednesday evening, at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Thursday, January 20 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greenleaf. Fr. David Metz officiated. Sheila Ouellette was organist and accompanied the church choir as they sang "Amazing Grace", "How Great Thou Art", I am the Bread of Life" and "Song of Farewell." Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Pug Wilson, Matt Uhlik, Tom Brabec, Robbie Werner, Gary Werner and Mark Werner. Betty Lea was born to Leo and Elsie (Mayhew) Werner on December 10, 1927 at Overbrook, Kansas. She worked in the offices of the Greenleaf Coop and the Gothenberg Coop in Nebraska. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and camping. Betty was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. On April 18, 1949 she was united in marriage to Richard Thorman. He preceded her in death on December 20, 1991. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Becky; a son, Rick; brothers, Bob and Melvin; and two grandchildren. Betty is survived by sons, Randy Thorman (JoAnn) of Greenleaf, Rusty Thorman (Jody) of York, Nebraska; a brother, Pete Werner of Stromsburg, Nebraska; and eleven grandchildren and several great grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
